TAAAC/Work to Rule at Jones PTA Letter
Dear Parents -
As you may be aware, many teachers County-wide are adopting a “work-to-rule” schedule to bring attention to contract negotiations between the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County and the Board of Education. In accordance with what was discussed at the November 18th PTA meeting, Jones Elementary School teachers have requested that we disseminate the following statement to you:
Jones Staff is committed to honoring our contracted hours and duties effective immediately. This is an issue between teachers county-wide and the Anne Arundel County Board of Education based on the expectations of our contract. We have been advised that our contract, being a legal matter, is something that we should not discuss any further with those outside of the negotiating parties. We truly appreciate your understanding.
The PTA Board has been working with the Jones teachers and administration to understand the ramifications of these issues. Our understanding is that there will be no immediate disruptions in before or after-school activities. However, teachers will not be answering calls or correspondence outside of the “contracted hours” of 7:45 AM - 3:45 PM.
This is not something that our teachers are entering into lightly, but they feel they must advocate for themselves and for their fellow teachers county-wide. We know this situation presents many questions and we appreciate your understanding as we, too, are trying to figure out what is needed. The Jones PTA is committed to the continued support of the students of Jones Elementary School.
We will continue to keep you updated on any progress or changes.
Please feel free to reach out if you have questions and we will pass them along.
The Jones Elementary PTA Board
